In alignment with our Group’s commitment to Sustainability as well as our continued investment in education and social development among youth, Hutchison Ports FCP is thrilled to present the pre-school students at Hugh Campbell Primary School a new playground, primarily constructed using upcycled material from our own port.
The FCP Employee Council coordinated a special community initiative through which our team members could make a personal impact in the lives of these students, who previously did not have a playground for recreation time at school. As we continue to find innovative ways to ‘Go Green’, our team identified an opportunity for a two-fold benefit by utilising recyclable materials from our operations to build a dynamic new play-area for the students’ while decreasing our output of waste.
Tammy Elliott, Principal of Hugh Campbell Primary, says that she and her team greatly appreciate this investment from FCP and that the pre-school students enjoy recreation time much more with the new variety of activities. Pre-School Teacher Raquel Fernander echoes these sentiments. “We’re very thankful,” she says.
FCP Employee Council President Angelo Lockhart speaks of the experience being a rewarding one and says the team was proud to donate their time, handcrafting and painting elements of the playground while teaching our community’s children about Sustainability through example. Giving back to the school [and] putting a smile on these kids’ faces – it goes a long way,” Lockhart says.
The new play area notably consists of:
- See Saw (repurposed plywood and tires)
- Climbers (repurposed pallets)
- Reading Nooks (repurposed spool)
- Sand Pit (special thanks to Bahama Rock Ltd.)
- Bike Trail (special thanks to Bahamas Hot Mix)
Hutchison Ports FCP remains dedicated to supporting our community and fostering a culture of sustainability.
