FREEPORT CONTAINER PORT HAS A CAREER OPPORTUNITY
AND IS CURRENTLY RECRUITING FOR A DEPUTY CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER.
The successful candidate will have responsibilities, that include but not limited to the management of terminal operations and for achieving optimum customer service levels, managing labour and equipment in a highly performance driven environment in cost-effective manner to quality and performance standards. This position works closely with the COO, Head of Quality Health Safety, & Environment, Head of Engineering, Chief Financial Officer, and the Chief People Officer to implement policies and programs that guide the company in maintaining and improving its competitive position and profitability.
QUALIFICATIONS, WORK EXPERIENCE and KSAs.
Should possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field with at least ten (10) years’ working experience and knowledge in Container and or Logistics Operation Management.
- Leadership: demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
- Planning: ability to plan and achieve a cost-effective operation of the Terminal.
- Management: ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in the Container Operation.
- Must have the knowledge, skill, and ability to establish and implement performance standards and ensure continuous improvement for achievement of the company’s goals and objective.
- Technical skills in quality assurance, project management and continuous improvement utilizing lean Six Sigma methodology.
- Possess the ability to improve and maintain customer service and operational personnel performance standards.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build high performance teams and a strong team player.
- Possess the required skill to create and maintain good labour relations and an environment conducive to achieving the goals and objectives of the company.
- Computer Literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Applications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include, but not limited to):
1.1 Ensure that the direction and management of the Terminal’s operational resources and activities achieve maximum quayside performance, within the budgeted objectives.
1.2 Clearly identify the objectives and targets relative to quayside productivity and ensure they are clearly communicated.
1.3 Identify those aspects of the quayside operations that are performing below standard or expectation. Continually seek to improve methods of work to increase performance and subsequently profitability.
1.4 Through associate managers and supervisory staff, organize all aspects of the daily activities and labour force; similarly organize and maintain plant and equipment at their disposal.
1.5 Ensure that operational costs are contained, and that labour utilization is maintained at maximum levels, also introducing initiatives to address improved revenue and reduce losses.
1.6 Optimize berthing and resource availability, ensuring short and long-term contractual arrangements are maintained. Wherever practical, anticipate customer requests to improve service levels.
1 .7 Actively create a productive working environment particularly with those liaising with the Planning, Terminal Service and Labour Departments on operational matters and quayside productivity.
1 .8 Maintain an effective dialogue with the Head of Engineering, to ensure the continual improvement in the Engineering support given to cargo handling operations.
1.9 Ensure the standard of occupational health and safety are achieved and maintained at optimal standard.
1.10 Ensure focus on the company’s environmental and socio-economic sustainability targets.
