The Commercial Department of Freeport Container Port is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Commercial Officer. The Commercial officer will be responsible developing and implementing an aggressive strategy to expand existing revenue streams and identify new commercial and business development opportunities. The Commercial Officer will identify synergies between the business units, develop, and implement innovative plans to create value.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or not less than three (3) years experience in commercial and/or business development in the shipping industry, ports or associated industries, banking, or finance.
- Experience with budgeting processes and sound financial acumen.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent written communication skills; proficient communicator and listener; work with minimal supervision; work individually and as part of a team;
- Have excellent relationship-building skills; computer literate, high level of accuracy and detail oriented.
- Must be competent in research and development. Strong analytical, problem solving, and negotiation skills.
- Willingness to travel.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
- Develop distinctive strategies to achieve and sustain competitive advantages. Develop systems for continuous monitoring, identification and management of competitive threats.
- Understand the changing global environment and the potential impact on the company’s plans and growth. Responsible for identifying new business opportunities for business units.
- Lead the execution of the local and international strategic initiatives developed by the Head of Commercial as directed. Develop and guide new programs that will ensure sustained profit growth within the business unit.
- Evaluate operational issues to ensure the organization has competitive edge and is in line with the goals established. Maintain current knowledge of the latest trends in port development.
- Assist the Head of Commercial with developing and maintaining the departmental budget as approved. Developing, managing and maintaining relationships with senior management, customers, JV partners, the Government, civic groups and key decision makers.
- Maintain close working relationships with international Agencies, Local Organizations, and International Business Associates. Knowledge of important international and local trends and identify activities that could potentially impact the business units.
- Make presentations to various groups within the customer’s organization as directed by the Head of Commercial. Attend trade shows and conferences both educational and customer oriented. Travel is a requirement both domestic and international. Develop and implement marketing strategies.
- Collaborate with the management to evaluate project performance and to recommend refinements and improvements of all components of proposals.
- Establish and maintain on-going customer relationships with the various parties to anticipate and resolve potential problems. Participate in site visits.
