The Straddle Driver is to undertake Straddle Carrier driving duties in support of Shipside and Landside operation achieving consistent levels of high productivity. All duties are to be performed with minimum delay and damage with a high degree of safety and in accordance with established operating procedures.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma
- Successful completion of Ship Working and crane checking training.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- High standard of physical fitness
- MUST not be afraid of heights
- MUST be technology savvy
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
- The ability to prioritize work; take initiative and improve processes.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on the Straddle Carrier, reporting any issues or damage to the Supervisor.
- Drive the Straddle Carrier to efficiently move containers and cargo between vessels and yard areas, ensuring accurate positioning and alignment under quayside cranes.
- Carry out internal movements of containers when needed and provide timely service to the interchange area.
- Immediately report any visible damage to containers or cargo during operations to the relevant personnel (Crane Checker or Straddle Dispatcher).
- Secure and release containers/cargo as per vessel stow and lashing plans. Assist with lashing/unlashing breakbulk or non-unitized cargo and use standard crane signals when needed.
- Ensure all containers handled match the documentation/data and report any discrepancies. Accurately complete and maintain all documentation.
- Be present and ready for work at the start of each shift. Ensure all handovers are conducted with minimal delay and that relevant personnel are fully briefed on the work outstanding.
- Follow all Health and Safety policies, ensuring safe working practices. Report hazards or unsafe practices to the Straddle Dispatcher.
- Actively participate in training for plant machinery operation and assist in the development of new technologies or working practices.
