The Engineering Department of Freeport Container Port is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Engineering Technician I. The Engineering Technician is to perform a high level of corrective and preventative maintenance on all FCP equipment. The focus is to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and inspect STS (ship-to-shore) container cranes and Straddle Carriers.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s Degree in technical field
- Three years experience in technical field or as Technician II
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must possess advanced knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
- Reading of schematics
- Electrical
- Mechanical
- Hydraulic & pneumatic systems
- PLC programming
- Must be computer literate with excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of standard materials, tools and equipment
- Possess the ability to work with and train others, where and when required
- Ability to work without supervision
- High standard of physical fitness with the ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds
- Not afraid of heights
- Practice good hygiene
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
- Carry out maintenance work including planned and unplanned maintenance according to schedule and Engineering Supervisor instruction, including cleaning, painting and lubrication exercises for equipment.
- Respond as directed by the Shift Supervisor to the breakdown calls from Operations.
- Complete the maintenance checklist and reports to ensure complete documentation and history.
- Maintain continuous communication with all the Engineering employees in order to share data, skills and knowledge.
- Participate in related engineering projects as requested.
- Assist in training of new technical staff. Attend to training classes as directed. Participate in team meeting for problem solving and continuous process improvement.
- As directed participate in special projects/duties that might require the use of a dedicated team.
- Carry out engineering duties as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor.
- Strictly adhere to Company safety policies.
- To provide and maintain safe systems of work within and by team.
- Ensure compliance with Company Safety Policy in areas under your control.
- Check for potential hazards and unsafe acts and to take corrective action.
- Ensure that protective clothing issued by the Company is worn as required.
- Ensure that no person is allowed to work in situations which may be hazardous. In relatively non-hazardous areas certain employees may be permitted to work alone, if necessary, but arrangements must be made to ensure their well-being.
- Ensure the prompt evaluation and expedite the appropriate action on safety complaints and employee comments on health and safety at work.
