The Engineering Department at the Freeport Container Port Limited invites qualified persons to apply for the position of Mechanical Technician. The Straddle & Spreader (Mechanical) Technician performs general maintenance & repairs to all departmental equipment, machines, and vehicles efficiently and safely. The successful candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Be in possession of a high school diploma or equivalent,
• certification in a recognized standard of achievement for diesel service technicians and/or mechanics; vocational mechanical training and/or direct diesel repair experience. 
• Possess at least 3-5 years actual or equivalent experience in the position. 
• Be in possession of a formal mechanic certification (a plus).

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

• Have acquired skills and knowledge regarding troubleshooting, repair of and function of diesel engines.
• Must have the ability to read, interpret and analyze maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, trade manuals, governmental regulations, and other documents.
• Possess the ability to repair and maintain the Hydraulic systems.
• Have ability and knowledge to work independently on mobile equipment electrical systems.
• Have a clear working knowledge of mobile equipment braking systems and how to repair brake systems. Training in the maintenance of both Pneumatic and Hydraulic brake systems is a must.
• Possess a working knowledge of small gear boxes and transmissions.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills needed to interpret technical manuals and communicate with colleagues and customers.
